Report Layout dialog

Used to control the output of a report. Order the report data in one of the following three ways:
  • Pre-Processing; Uses the Column Layout section to select attributes to include in a report, to set the column headings, and to order the columns.
  • Post-Processing; Includes in the report all columns listed in the Column Layout section without setting an order. Use tools in a spreadsheet application to order the columns.
  • Combination; Performs a combination of both pre-processing and post-processing tasks.

SettingDescription
File
  • Load — Opens the Open File dialog, used to load a layout file.
  • Save As — Opens the File Save dialog, used to save a layout file. By default, the name of the layout file is <name>.lay.
Types to Quantify Specifies the items to include in the report.

This list box contains the elements that can be selected from the model and included in a report. By default, all items in the list are selected. However, individual items can be selected from the list, such as Slab Form. Report processing time decreases as the number of items selected decreases.

Extra Sort Keys The following settings are available.
  • Key 1 — Controls the sorting before it is sorted by the Component number and label and the element ID number:
    • None — Performs no sorting.
    • Part — Sorts first by Part Family and Part name. If Part is defined as Key 3, this option is disabled.
    • Level — Sorts first by Level. If Level is defined as Key 3, this option is disabled.
    • File — Sorts first by design file name or logical name (if available).
    • Label & ID — Sorts first by Component label and element ID number. If this option is selected, the default sorting by Component label and element ID number is cancelled.

When a frame is placed, it receives a unique ID number. The elements contained in one compound cell share the same ID number. By sorting a report on an ID number using Key 1 or Key 2, the quantities are grouped per frame.

  • Key 2 — Sorts like Key 1 described above.
  • Key 3 — Controls the sorting after sorting by Key 1 and Key 2 and after it has been sorted by the Component number and label and the element ID number:
    • None — Performs no sorting.
    • Part — Sorts by Part Family and Part name. If Part is defined as Key 1 or Key 2, this option is disabled.
    • Level — Sorts by Level. If Level is defined as Key 1 or Key 2, this option is disabled.
Column Layout Controls the reporting of element attributes. The following settings are available.
  • Report Layout option menu — Sets the report format to Detailed or Summary. Both formats are defined in the same layout file.
  • Number field — Sets the column order for the report. This number corresponds to the selected column in the Column Tile List box. Select a column title in the list box and change this number to alter the position of the selected column in the report.

Entering the desired position of the selected column in the Number field also alters the position of that column in the list box.

  • Accuracy — Enabled for Unit Price, Weight, Length, Thickness, Height, X, Y, and Z. Sets the number of decimal places for report data. Decimal place options are available for:
    • 0
    • 0.1
    • 0.12
    • 0.123
    • 0.1234
    • 0.12345
    • 0.123456
  • Width field — Enabled for Part Description, and Component Description. Sets the column width for report data.
Note: The width field only appears when you switch off the Full Information toggle. With Full Information toggled on, you will get the complete description (max 512 characters). Only when Full Information is off, you are allowed to limit the number of characters in the description.
  • Title field — Displays the name of the current selection in the Column Tile list box; and sets the names for report column titles. Also use this field to reset or change column tile names.
  • Column Title list box — Displays all available report column titles and enables additional settings and ordering of columns. The position of the column title within the report is indicated by its corresponding number, which can be changed in the Number field.Double-click a column title in the list box to move a title to the top of the list box (and to the top of the report order). The column title number is also changed to reflect the new position.
Other Report Texts Controls the labels for items not included in the Column Layout.
The following settings are available.
  • Opening — Indicates that a quantity is generated by an opening.
  • Deductions — Indicates that openings smaller than the size defined in the component have not been deducted.
  • Inclusion — Setting determines if the component price is included/not included.
  • Grand Total — Sets the total cost price of all components.
Generated Files Format The following settings are available.
  • Quantity Take-Off — Sets the file format in which to save the detailed and summary reports:
    • Tab Delimited – Separates fields in the report by tabs.
    • Quoted Text – Encloses fields in the report in quotes.
    • Excel File – Generates a Microsoft Excel file. When a report is exported to Microsoft Excel, a dynamic link from the report back to the model is created. Items can be selected in the report to create a Selection Set in the model, using this link. The model can be opened from within Excel to view the selection set of elements. In addition, selected elements can be visually isolated, their display in the view window can be maximized, and they can be rendered in any mode.
  • Decimal Separator — Sets the decimal separator for the detailed and summary reports.
    • 12.34 – Uses a period.
    • 12,34 – Uses a comma.
  • Spec. Text List — Sets the file format for Specification Text reports.
    • ASCII List
  • Full Information — If on, all report table column rows are populated. This eliminates cleanup after data is exported to a spreadsheet.
  • Include Totals — If on, component totals are listed in the report.
Tip: Turn this setting off when exporting data to a database or spreadsheet.
